Our Mission

The Mission of the Archdiocese of Arusha is “To provide quality, equitable and affordable comprehensive health care services along with spiritual care depending on the circumstances of each health unit”, St. Elizabeth Hospital has been serving the municipal of Arusha since 1975. First as a dispensary and then as a hospital. It is the second largest hospital in the region and acts as a referral hospital to other health facilities in Arusha and the Manyara Regions.

THE GENERAL BACKGROUND OF ST.ELIZABETH HOSPITAL, ARUSHA

St. Elizabeth Hospital is a medical facility owned and operated by the catholic archdiocese of Arusha, It was established as a dispensary in 1974 and upgraded into a hospital in 1984, serving mostly the marginalized resource poor pastoralists. The hospital is centrally located in Arusha city of Tanzania. Arusha is a growing city in Tanzania which hosts among others the east Africa community Headquarters, the regional commonwealth secretariat, the International court of tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and famous Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC). The city is also the headquarters of Tanzania National Tourism Board (TANAPA)

It is the third largest hospital in the region and it acts as the referral hospital I this region to other archdiocesan health facilities in the region.The hospital serves a catchment area of approximately 500,000 people. The hospital together with Mt. Meru Hospital and Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre serve as the main referral recourses for the entire rural and urban area of Arusha region, with a population of about 2 million people.

The growth of Arusha municipality and increasing demand for quality health service delivery by the growing population has caused the Archdiocese of Arusha to extend and upgrade the facility to enable it address the demand for services such as maternal and child healthcare which the government did not offe, Also through the private donations of volunteers and others

The Vision of the Archdiocese of Arusha is to build a society whereby the health and well being of individuals and communities are enhanced, especially for those most in need.

St Elizabeth Hospital has a vision “to be a center of excellence in providing health and spiritual services through provision of enhanced modernized, professional and quality patient care alongside spiritual ethics.” They aim to offer accessible and affordable services, motivating, supporting and engaging staff, as well as, Pastorial and Counselling services.
